This is an interesting Hotel. We've stayed mostly with locals and Chinese guests. The staff was extremely helpful and polite. The front desk staff speaks very good English, others - not so much, but we managed to communicate with everyone. I did not expect a free transfer offer. It was a pleasant and convenient surprise. The Japanese-style room was spacious but quite outdated. Walls, doors, windows, and other decor is worn out. There are pictures of the renewed Western rooms, I'd go for that now. Compared to the similar-priced and sized onsen-town hotels, our room was very average but acceptable to my taste. The outdoor public bath was quite small but, again, comfortable enough. The onsen guest-counting system is precise, TV system shows real numbers. When it says "0 guests", the bath was, indeed, empty and could be used as if private - most quiet and relaxing. The bay view from the room is pleasant, but obstructed by nearby buildings, more of a 'side view' type. The hotel has a generous Japanese breakfast, but not too many Western options. Could be a challenge for some visitors. The Japanese-style Kaiseki dinner served in the room was an outstanding feast. I've enjoyed it VERY MUCH. But, again, no Western options or any allergy warnings here. Be very cautious, as it's had to know what's on the plate before tasting it. Free beverages for the customers were a nice touch - sodas, sake, vines.

Although the trip was for sakura viewing, we did not really expect sakura to be right at the door step. This was the first pleasant surprise when we reached the hotel, beautiful sakura trees greeting us right at the hotel entrance! Next, we were impressed by the courteous staff who demonstrated the true Japanese hospitality throughout our stay. The Kaiseki dinners were also sumptuous. The hotel was at high ground so we could see the sea at a distance. The outdoor onsens, both public and private were located in a beautiful garden. All in all, it was a great stay for our family of four. We would definitely stay here if we come to Beppu again.

Resort feel. Very helpful staff. Massive rooms for Japan standards - very nice to have a tatami room! The omakase dinner in room is a must have experience. Delicious! Happy hour is a nice bonus.

Carolyn

Exquisite full course kaiseki dinner served in the room, free flow drinks including alcohol at the lounge from 3-9pm, charming outdoor rotenburo onsen, stellar service from staff.

Gregory

The refreshments (teas, sake, umeshu, beer, soft drinks) post onsen was lovely to drink and the outdoor bath was beautiful. The kaiseki dinner was delicious too.
